Research:
I measure how squishy DNA is by squeezing it into really small tubes. We are interested in this because A. the physics of squishy things is interesting and not fully understood and DNA is an ideal squishy thing to experiment with and B. other projects in my lab develop technology to read genetic information by squeezing DNA into tubes. I have also done work on the theory of oscillating bubbles. I recently wrote a paper calculating the time taken to fall through the Earth, which has received considerable coverage in the popular press.
